TPACK lesson planning

Science lesson plan: Degradable  and non-degradable things

Grade level : IV

Subject: Science

Topic: Degradable  and non-degradable things

TPACK model :

  • Technological knowledge (TK): Power point
  • Pedagogical  knowledge ( PK) : Group work
  • Content knowledge : understanding micro organism , Degradable   and non-degradable
Learning Objectives : At the end of the lesson , each child will be able to :
1.define the term degradable and non-degradable things correctly after my lesson
2.write down correctly which things will decay and which will not after group work
3.Analyze accurately the ways to dispose waste properly after watching short video

Materials required : variety of things , exit ticket sheet , green board and chalk .
Lesson plan :

Introduction ( 10 minutes ) :
  •  Begin with a discussion about trash and waste . Ask students what happens to trash after they throw it away and where they throw vegetables waste .
  • check prior knowledge by asking at their homes do they dump vegetables and plastic on same bin .
  • introduce the term "degradable and non-degradable" by writing on Green board using chalk .
Activity ( 20 minutes ) : Group work

1. Prediction : divide the students into 5 groups and let them settle . present the students with 5 things ( tomato ,water  bottle, plastic, chalk and onion. ) provide them with chart written two tables on it ( degradable  and non-degradable things .
2.Experimentation : in a group they will have a observation and they write down which things will decay and which will not.
3.Discussion : teacher will facilitate, ask student to discuss why it will decay and why not. Encourage students will discuss why it will decay and not decay .

Explanation ( 15 minutes ) knowledge
1.Introduce key concepts: Explain by teaching them why things decay and why not .
2. Visual aids : teach ways  of disposing waste properly using short video.https://youtu.be/29OFyXJC_uA

Elaboration (15 minuities)
1. Deeper exploration : ask student to look out of window and observe things which decay and which not .
2. Real world application : use tomato to elaborate why this decay .

Assessment ( conclusion )
The knowledge acquire will be tested by using exit ticket where they will be asked to answer some questions.
Questions : 1.will water bottle decay ?
                   2. How to dispose waste properly ?
                   3. why does tomato decay ?
Differentiation
1. visual learner : use video's and pictures to teach the concept .
2. Kinesthetic learner : allow kinesthetic learners to handle the sorting things during group work .
3.Auditory learners: use lecture method
4.Advanced learners : provide additional questions to answer .
5.Struggling learners : provide scaffolding .
